I ask my friends and colleagues on how do they celebrate Hari Raya with their family. And out of 10 people i asked, 8 of them gave replies with the simple words such as, "Oh, aku duduk rumah je, or aku tak celebrate hari raya ar, sama je every year."
It seems like there is nothing interesting, exciting or important to celebrate Hari Raya. But its interesting, exciting AND important to hang out with their friends, gf, bf, etc on a NORMAL day. And its kinda upset me to see our own culture simply don't care about Hari Raya. But they choose to celebrate National Day, New Year, Christmas and Valentines Day.
However to me...every year, Hari Raya is important to me. I get to open my eyes and see my parents are with me, I get to go to mosque for Solat Idilfitri, I get to meet my grandfather, my chinese grandmother, my uncles, my aunties and my cousins. I mean, lets face it. How many of us often hang out with our family, uncles, aunties and relatives more than our friends?
But then again, who am I to tell them which is right and which is wrong. Let them be. They don't know how important that day is. They don't know how happy their parent is...
